The Arcadian League coinage of the early fifth century BC represents one of the earliest known experiments in federal Greek coinage — city-states pooling monetary identity under a collective issuer rather than striking autonomously. Tegea's participation is notable given its complicated relationship with Spartan hegemony; the city had only recently been operating under Lacedaemonian pressure and periodically supplied troops to Sparta under treaty obligation.
SNG Copenhagen 188 is among the thinner, lighter fractions of the series, consistent with the smaller obol denominations struck for local market transactions rather than inter-regional trade.
