Obverse description Bust of Shapur II facing right, wearing the distinctive Sasanian mural crown surmounted by a globus and korymbos (hair-ball encased in silk), with a beaded diadem. The king is depicted in profile with stylized facial features characteristic of early Sasanian portraiture. The bust is draped and rendered in low relief, consistent with the reduced flan of the obol denomination. A beaded border encircles the design.
