The Boii were expelled from their Transalpine territories by the Romans in 191 BC, after which surviving populations concentrated in the middle Danube basin — the region modern archaeology identifies with the Roseldorf oppidum complex in Lower Austria. The Roseldorf site yielded one of the largest ritual deposit assemblages of Celtic coinage ever excavated, suggesting these diminutive silver pieces circulated within a ceremonially significant settlement rather than a purely commercial one.
