Obverse description The word REX is boldly inscribed in the central field in large, somewhat crude capital letters, characteristic of early Capetian hammered coinage. A circular legend surrounds the central inscription, reading the royal name ROTBERTVS REX. The lettering is arranged around the full circumference of the flan, which is irregularly shaped as typical of hand-struck medieval silver coins. The overall design is plain and epigraphic, without a royal portrait or other figurative element.

Reverse description A plain cross with equal arms is depicted prominently in the center of the coin, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The cross divides the inner field into four equal quadrants and is rendered in a simple, bold style consistent with early medieval French coinage. A circular legend surrounds the beaded circle, identifying the mint city. The flan is irregular and slightly concave in places, as expected of hammered silver coinage of this period.
