Beschrijving keerzijde A bold anchored cross with splayed arms fills the central field, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The cross divides the field into four quadrants and is executed in a sturdy, typical Romanesque feudal style. A partial Latin legend appears in the outer margin reading * VSE [...], an abbreviation for 'Uzetia' or 'Uzès'. The overall design is characteristic of southern French episcopal coinage of the early 13th century.

Aanvullende informatie

Raymond III held the see of Uzès during a period of acute political pressure in Languedoc — the Albigensian Crusade, launched in 1209, brought northern French forces into the region and fundamentally disrupted local episcopal authority. That this small billon issue was struck precisely across those years is not incidental. Bishops in the affected dioceses had strong practical reasons to assert coining rights quickly, before the political order reorganized around crusader lordships.

Dy féodales 1586 is among the scarcer episcopal issues of the Gard.
