Obverse description Central field features a plain cross pattée with a small decorative element at the centre, set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Latin reads RADVLFVS VICONS, identifying the issuer as Raoul (Radulfus), Viscount of Châteaudun. The lettering is separated by a cross at the beginning of the inscription. The overall style is characteristic of medieval French feudal billon coinage, struck by hand with irregular flan edges.
