| Obverse description | Facing bust of the king in a highly stylized, debased Carolingian manner, centrally placed within the field. The portrait, rendered in low relief with crude die-cutting characteristic of late 9th-century Frankish provincial coinage, shows a schematic face with simplified facial features. The bust is surrounded by a beaded inner border, with the Latin legend reading clockwise in the outer margin of the coin. |
