| Obverse description | Central field features a bold cross pattée enclosed within a beaded inner circle, a characteristic Carolingian design element. The cross arms are slightly flared at the terminals and occupy the full diameter of the inner circle. Surrounding the beaded circle, the Latin legend reads +ODDO REX FR-C, identifying the issuer as Odo, King of the Franks. The lettering is rendered in majuscule Carolingian characters typical of late 9th-century Frankish coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with hand-hammered production of the period. |
