Additional information

Matthias II spent much of his Hungarian reign managing the grinding costs of the Long Turkish War's aftermath and successive Transylvanian rebellions, leaving the royal treasury chronically depleted. The obol denomination, already marginal by the early seventeenth century, was maintained largely to service small daily transactions in a monetized rural economy that larger denominations couldn't efficiently reach.

The ÉH and Huszár references split this issue across multiple catalog numbers, reflecting documented die and mint mark variations across the Kremnitz and Nagybánya facilities during these years.
