Obol - Louis IV the Child Toul mint

Louis IV — known as "the Child" for ascending the East Frankish throne at age six in 900 — was the last Carolingian king of East Francia, his reign ending with his death in 911 at just seventeen. The Toul mint, operating under episcopal authority in the March of Lotharingia, produced coinage throughout this brief and administratively turbulent reign as Carolingian central power continued its generational collapse. After Louis died without an heir, the East Frankish magnates elected Conrad of Franconia rather than turn to the West Frankish Carolingian line — effectively ending the dynasty in the east.
