| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse field bears the mint name SENONES, denoting the city of Sens, arranged in two horizontal lines across the coin's surface: SENO in the upper line and NES in the lower line. The lettering is rendered in broad, somewhat irregular Roman capitals characteristic of Carolingian hammered coinage of the early ninth century. The flan edges are irregular with some flan splits visible, and a faint beaded border is partially discernible around the periphery. The flat, unadorned field reflects the austere typology standard to Carolingian obols of this issue. |
