The inscription, denoting the Melle mint, is separated from the central cross motif by the inner ring. The lettering displays the characteristic retrograde and Greek-influenced lambda (Λ) in place of a standard 'A', a known feature of Melle mint issues. A cross precedes the legend as an initial mark.
