| Obverse description | A plain cross centered within an inner circle, dividing the field into four equal quadrants. The cross is rendered in bold relief typical of Carolingian hammered coinage. Surrounding the inner circle, the imperial legend runs clockwise in capital Latin letters around the periphery of the flan. The style is characteristic of the monogram and cross coinage issued under Louis the Pious. |
