Obverse description Crowned facing bust of King James II of Aragon depicted in a schematic, medieval style typical of hammered billon coinage, set within the central field. The royal effigy is rendered in low relief with a stylized crown above the head, characteristic of 13th–14th century Catalan mint work. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading +IACOBUS:REX, identifying the monarch as James, King. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the edges, as is common for hammered obol coinage of this period. The overall design is coarse but consistent with Barcelona Mint production of the reign.

Reverse description A plain cross pattée divides the reverse field into four quadrants, each containing a cluster of pellets arranged in a triangular grouping, a hallmark design feature of the Barcelona obol type of James II. The cross extends to a beaded inner circle, beyond which the circular Latin legend BAQINONA — a characteristic medieval rendering of Barcelona — runs along the coin's periphery. The hammered flan shows the typical irregular outline and flat strike of small billon coinage. The overall reverse design follows the established Cross-and-pellets convention employed at the Barcelona Mint throughout the late 13th and early 14th centuries.
