Additional information

The 1445 interregnum followed the death of Władysław III at Varna in November 1444, when Hungary found itself without a king and governed by János Hunyadi as regent. Coinage struck during this period carries no royal name — an almost singular circumstance in medieval Hungarian minting — which is precisely what distinguishes this obol from the broader Jagiellon and Habsburg series surrounding it.
