Obverse description A stylised leopard passant facing left occupies the central field, rendered in the characteristic crude Gothic manner of hammered Aquitainian billon coinage. The figure is set within a plain inner circle, itself enclosed by a beaded border. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin characters reads EDWARDVS REX AGL E, identifying the issuer as Edward, King of England. The irregular flan and variable strike are typical of late 13th-century hammered provincial issues.
