| Obverse description | Central field features a Carolingian monogram of KAROLVS enclosed within a beaded inner circle, rendered in the characteristic interlaced style of the period. The monogram is composed of angular, interlocking letterforms typical of ninth-century Frankish coinage. Surrounding the inner circle, a circular legend in Latin reads ✠ CRΛTIΛ D-I REX, invoking Charles as king by divine grace. The outer border is defined by a raised rim. The overall fabric is irregular, consistent with hand-hammered production of the Carolingian era. |
