| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold pattée or forked cross divides the reverse field into four quarters, each containing a small annulet or pellet ornament. The cross is rendered in high relief with splayed, angular arms characteristic of Romanesque ecclesiastical coin design. A beaded inner circle frames the cross design, beyond which the Latin circumscription names the City of Mende. The composition is typical of feudal French episcopal coinage of the 12th–13th centuries, emphasizing the cross as a symbol of episcopal authority. |
