| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central design depicts a frontal royal bust wearing a crown, flanked on either side by tall architectural columns or pillars. Above the crowned head rises a stylised palm or tree motif, with a prominent six- or seven-pointed star at its apex. Crescent-shaped ornaments and pellets are arranged symmetrically in the upper field between the columns. The lower portion of the bust features a beaded or pellet-decorated neckline. The coin is struck on an irregular flan with a plain raised rim, typical of Hungarian hammered coinage of the early 13th century. |

Andrew II's reign was defined less by stable governance than by the relentless alienation of royal estates to his nobles — a policy so ruinous it forced the issuing of the Golden Bull of 1222, Hungary's foundational constitutional document limiting royal power. Coinage from his reign reflects the fiscal strain: weights dropped progressively, and the silver content of small denominations was repeatedly debased to fund his disastrous Fifth Crusade of 1217, from which he returned having accomplished virtually nothing.
