| Obverse description | Laureate head of Apollo facing three-quarters to the left, rendered in the archaic Greek style with fine detail. The deity's face is turned partially toward the viewer, giving the portrait a distinctive frontal quality uncommon in contemporary coinage. The hair is arranged in tight curls beneath the laurel wreath, with locks falling to the neck. The die work reflects the regional Thessalian engraving tradition of the fourth century BC. |
