Obverse description A sphinx depicted in profile facing right, rendered in high relief against a granular field. The creature is shown in a seated posture with one forepaw raised, its feathered wings folded along the body and its leonine haunches clearly articulated. The human head displays archaic stylistic features characteristic of Karian coinage of the early fourth century BC. No inscription or border ornament is present on this face.
