Reverse description Two crescents arranged back-to-back within a shallow incuse circle, forming a symmetrical lunate device. The Greek letters Θ Ε Ι Π Ν are disposed around the crescents, representing an abbreviated form of the ethnic ΘΕΣΠΙΕΩΝ, identifying the issuing city of Thespiai. The incuse treatment of the reverse is characteristic of early hammered coinage from Boeotia.
