| 裏面の説明 | Bare, laureate head of Apollo facing left, rendered in fine archaic-to-transitional Greek style with sensitively detailed wavy hair arranged in locks swept back from the face and gathered at the crown. The facial features are delicately modeled with a straight nose and subtly parted lips. The wreath of laurel is visible atop the head, consistent with Apolline iconography standard in Cilician coinage of this period. The flan is irregular and slightly off-center, as is typical of hammered silver issues of this denomination. |

Mallos was an ancient city on the Cilician plain whose civic coinage of this period reflects a complicated political reality — the city had recently passed through Persian suzerainty and intermittent autonomy, and was the site of a famous dispute between two brothers over its governance that reportedly provoked the intervention of Artaxerxes II around 386 BC. Small silver fractions like this obol circulated in a region where Aramaic was the administrative language but Greek the commercial one.
