The Perrhaiboi were a Thessalian people who maintained their own federal coinage distinct from the dominant Thessalian leagues around them — a mark of political autonomy that was perpetually contested. This obol falls within a narrow window of production, likely tied to a period of relative stability before Macedonian pressure began reshaping northern Greek political arrangements in the following decades. The BCD collection, from which this reference derives, remains the single most important assembled corpus for Thessalian regional issues, and Perrhaibian material is among its thinner documented sequences.
