| Beschrijving keerzijde | Skylla depicted swimming to the right, her serpentine fish-tail coiling prominently in the lower field. The mythological figure holds a sepia (cuttlefish) and a fish in her outstretched arms, and a mussel shell appears in the lower exergual area. The Greek ethnic legend ΑΛΛΙΒΑΝΟΝ is inscribed around the periphery of the field, identifying the issuing community of Allifae. The design reflects the strong Hellenistic iconographic tradition prevalent among the Samnite towns of Campania. |
