Obverse description Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Valentinian II facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style with a string of pearls forming the diadem. The emperor's paludamentum is fastened at the right shoulder, and the cuirass is visible beneath the drapery. The encircling Latin legend reads D N VALENTINI-ANVS P F AVG, identifying the Augustus by name and titles. The portrait, though struck on an irregular flan, exhibits the characteristic stylized features of late fourth-century Constantinopolitan coinage.
