Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Valentinian II, rendered in the late Roman imperial style typical of the Theodosian period. The emperor is depicted pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed, with the effigy occupying the central field. The circumferential legend D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG runs around the bust, partially visible on this worn example. The portrait exhibits the youthful features characteristic of Valentinian II's coinage, consistent with his early reign iconography as struck at the Thessalonica mint.
