Obverse description Right-facing pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valens, rendered in the standard late Roman imperial portrait style. The pearl diadem is clearly delineated across the brow, while the paludamentum is fastened at the right shoulder. The cuirass is visible at the bust truncation, with scaled or feathered detailing on the shoulder guard. The Latin legend encircles the effigy, and the coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and green patination typical of late fourth-century bronze nummi struck at Constantinople.
