Obverse description Right-facing bust of the Emperor Valens, rendered in the late Roman imperial style, adorned with a pearl diadem, draped paludamentum over the shoulder, and cuirassed. The effigy displays the characteristic strong profile of Valentinianic portraiture, with the legend encircling the field. The surface retains a pleasing green patina with areas of underlying bronze visible on the high relief of the portrait.
