Obverse description Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Theodosius II facing right, rendered in low relief typical of late antique small bronze coinage. The emperor's pearl diadem is visible along the crown of the head, and the draped paludamentum covers the shoulder. The encircling Latin legend D N THEODOSIVS P F AVG runs around the periphery of the flan, though partially obscured by the irregular edge. The portrait exhibits the stylized, somewhat schematic facial treatment characteristic of fifth-century Eastern Roman nummi from the Cyzicus mint.
