| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Magnus Maximus rendered in the late Roman imperial style, pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed. The effigy displays finely engraved hair and facial features characteristic of the Theodosian period workshop at Lugdunum. The imperial legend encircles the bust in a continuous band, reading from left to right around the periphery of the flan. The portrait conveys the conventional military authority of a late Roman usurper-emperor, with the paludamentum visible at the shoulder. |
