| Beschrijving keerzijde | A soldier or military figure, identified as a Roman warrior personifying the valour of the army, stands facing left in military attire, holding a spear or standard in one hand and a shield or captive in the other. The divided legend VIRT EXERC - ROMANOR surrounds the central type, proclaiming the valour of the Roman army. A mint mark appears in the exergue, consisting of the letter R accompanied by a wreath and an officina numeral, denoting production at the Rome mint. The field is heavily corroded with green patina but the main figurative type remains partially legible. The reverse type reflects Julian II's emphasis on military virtue and his efforts to invigorate the Roman legions. |
