Helena, mother of Constantine I, was elevated to the rank of Augusta around 324–325 AD following Constantine's consolidation of sole power after defeating Licinius. Her coinage — including this Heraclean issue — was part of a deliberate dynastic program that positioned her alongside Fausta, Constantine's wife, as an imperial figure of public honor. The mint at Heraclea, located in Thrace near the Propontis, was one of the eastern mints that came fully under Constantinian control only after 324.
Helena died around 328–330 AD, making the production window for her coinage quite narrow. RIC VII Heraclea 85 belongs to the fourth officina of that mint.
