Obverse description Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gratian facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style typical of the Valentinianic dynasty. The emperor's hair is arranged in rows of beaded locks beneath the pearl diadem, with a fibula visible at the right shoulder securing the paludamentum. The encircling Latin legend DN GRATIANVS P F AVG (Dominus Noster Gratianus Pius Felix Augustus) runs along the rim. The portrait exhibits the naturalistic yet stylized treatment characteristic of Siscia mint production during the reign of Gratian.
