| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Emperor Gratian rendered in the typical late Roman imperial style, pearl-diademed with a string of beads clearly visible at the brow, the hair worked in layered strands. The emperor is depicted draped and cuirassed, with paludamentum visible at the left shoulder. The obverse legend encircles the effigy, partially legible on this worn specimen. The portrait exhibits the characteristic large-eyed, frontal stylization of Valentinianic-era coinage. |
