Obverse description Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gratian facing right, wearing a pearl diadem with elaborate curled hair rendered in fine detail. The emperor is depicted in military dress with paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, conveying imperial authority. The circumferential legend reads D N GRATI-ANVS P F AVG, distributed around the bust. The portrait style is characteristic of the late Theodosian workshop tradition, with the facial features rendered in a somewhat schematic but confident manner. The field is plain, with no additional symbols or marks.
