| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of the emperor Gratian, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed, rendered in the late Roman imperial style characteristic of the Valentinianic dynasty. The pearl diadem is clearly articulated, with pendilia visible behind the ear, and the paludamentum is fastened at the right shoulder. The cuirass displays incised detail consistent with workshop practice at Lugdunum. The circumferential legend reads D N GRATIAN-VS AVGG AVG, broken by the bust itself. |
