正面铭文 MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES
(Translation: Maximianus most noble Caesar)
背面描述 The Genius of the Roman People stands facing left, depicted as a youthful, idealized male figure, largely nude with a chlamys draped over the left shoulder. He wears the modius (a grain measure symbolizing abundance) atop his head, and holds a patera in his extended right hand for libation, while his left hand grasps a cornucopiae overflowing with fruits. The reverse legend is divided across the field and exergue; no mintmark is present on this die variety, which is characteristic of the earliest Londinium folles of this type (RIC VI Lon. 35).

附加信息

Struck at the London mint during the final years of Galerius's tenure as Caesar under Diocletian's Tetrarchy, this issue falls within the period immediately preceding the Great Persecution of Christians — an imperial program Galerius is widely credited with instigating and which formally began in 303 AD with the destruction of the church at Nicomedia. The London mint was among the westernmost production points in the tetrarchic system, operating under the administrative authority of Constantius I in the same years he was campaigning against the Picts beyond Hadrian's Wall.
