The gateway is depicted with a central arched doorway and courses of masonry rendered in the abbreviated late Roman style typical of small nummi. The encircling Latin legend SPES RO-MANORVM proclaims the emperor as the Hope of the Romans. The mint mark LVGP appears in the exergue, identifying production at the first officina of the Lugdunum mint during the reign of Flavius Victor (383–388 AD). |
