| Descrizione del dritto | Two confronting busts shown face-on, representing the Byzantine emperors Heraclius (elder, at left) and Heraclius Constantine (younger, at right), each wearing a chlamys and an elaborate crown surmounted by a cross. A cross appears in the field above between the two effigies. A degenerate pseudo-legend, imitating Byzantine epigraphy but without legible meaning, encircles the design. The style is a crude provincial adaptation of the Byzantine follis prototype, characteristic of early Umayyad Arab-Byzantine transitional coinage from Spain and North Africa. |
