| Beschrijving voorzijde | Laureate and draped bust of Diocletian facing right, depicted as senior Augustus in a bold, slightly stylized late Roman manner. The emperor wears a radiate or laureate crown and paludamentum, with the portrait rendered in the distinctive square-jawed, heavily bearded style characteristic of the Tetrarchic period. The encircling Latin legend reads D N DIOCLETIANO BAEATISSIMO SEN AVG, identifying him as the Most Blessed Senior Augustus. A beaded border frames the entire obverse field. The portrait conveys the idealized authority befitting a retired emperor of the Tetrarchy. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two standing figures occupy the reverse field: on the left, Providentia, the personification of divine foresight, faces right and extends her right hand toward Quies, the personification of rest or retirement, who stands on the right holding a sceptre or branch. Both figures are rendered in the formal, frontal style of Tetrarchic coinage. The encircling Latin legend PROVIDENTIA DEORVM QVIES AVGG alludes to the divine providence granting peaceful retirement to the Augusti following Diocletian's abdication in 305. A beaded border surrounds the design, and a mint mark appears in the exergue identifying the Ticinum officina. |
