Nummus - Crispus CAESARVM NOSTRORVM VOT X, Aquileia

Crispus, Constantine's eldest son and a capable general who had just crushed Licinius's fleet at the Hellespont in 324, was dead within three years of this issue — executed on his father's orders in 326 at Pola, almost certainly on the instigation of his stepmother Fausta. The VOT X vows celebrated here, anticipating a tenth anniversary of his Caesarship, were never fulfilled. Fausta herself was killed shortly after, suffocated in an overheated bath. RIC VII 108 is rated scarce for Aquileia, a mint that saw irregular production of Crispus issues across this period.
