正面描述 Right-facing draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Constantius II, adorned with a pearl diadem, rendered in the late Roman imperial portrait style characteristic of the mid-4th century. The emperor's effigy displays a paludamentum fastened at the shoulder and segmented cuirass visible at the breast. The encircling Latin legend reads D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG, broken across the field. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hammered bronze nummi of this period.

附加信息

Constantius II spent much of his reign battling usurpers — Magnentius in the West, Vetranio briefly in Illyricum — and the SPES REIPVBLICE type was introduced precisely as his hold on the reunified empire solidified after 353. The slogan was deliberate political messaging following years of civil war, not decorative convention.

RIC VIII 155 from Constantinopolis dates to the period when that mint was operating at high volume to supply Constantius's eastern campaigns against Shapur II. The small module of 15mm represents the final contraction of the AE3 denomination before Julian's reforms altered the bronze coinage structure entirely.
