The SPES REI PVBLICE issues from Aquileia fall within Constantius II's sole reign following the defeat and death of the usurper Magnentius in 353. The Aquileia mint had been under Magnentius's control for the duration of his revolt, and its reintegration into the imperial system meant a rapid retooling of production under loyalist supervision. RIC VIII 235 is among the more common survivals from this officina, though individual officina letters repay attention — Aquileia ran multiple workshops simultaneously during this period, and output varied considerably between them.
