背面描述 Two helmeted soldiers standing facing one another, each clad in military attire and resting their inner hand on a grounded spear or standard; between them stands a single legionary standard surmounted by a christogram (chi-rho) medallion, around which two further globes or roundels are visible on the shaft. The composition emphasises military loyalty and imperial unity. The mint mark CONSA appears in the exergue, identifying the first officina of the Constantinople mint. The encircling legend GLORIA EXERCITVS, punctuated by a terminal stop, runs along the outer border within a dotted frame.

附加信息

Constantius II inherited the eastern portion of the empire upon Constantine the Great's death in May 337, but the succession was immediately complicated — within months, soldiers loyal to Constantius massacred most of the male relatives who might have contested his rule, leaving only his brothers Constantine II and Constans and two young cousins, Julian and Gallus, alive. The GLORIA EXERCITVS type, with its emphasis on military glory, was therefore not mere propaganda but an active reassurance directed at the very troops who had just committed dynastic murder on his behalf.
