The GLORIA EXERCITVS ("glory of the army") reverse type was introduced across the empire around 330 AD as a calculated piece of political messaging — Constantius II and his brothers were being positioned as co-rulers by Constantine I, and a coinage celebrating military unity served the dynasty's interest in projecting cohesive imperial strength.
