The FEL TEMP REPARATIO ("happy times restored") coinage was launched in 348 AD to mark the 1,100th anniversary of Rome's founding, flooding the empire with small bronze at a scale rarely attempted before or since. By the time the Thessalonica mint struck this particular issue in the late 350s, Constantius II was sole emperor following the defeat and death of the usurper Magnentius — a political reality the slogan conveniently reinforced. The Thessalonica mint, one of the more productive eastern facilities of the period, was operating under considerable pressure to supply the Danubian frontier with coinage.
RIC VIII 211 falls among the smallest module reductions of the series, a consequence of successive official weight reductions across the decade.
