The portrait follows the stylized late Roman convention, with a relatively elongated neck and frontal eye characteristic of mid-4th-century imperial coinage. The barbarian horseman, unhorsed, turns to face his attacker and raises his left arm in a gesture of supplication or defense. This is the classic 'fallen horseman' type of the FEL TEMP REPARATIO series, symbolizing Roman military supremacy and the restoration of the golden age. The mint mark appears in the exergue, and an officina letter is placed in the left field. The reverse legend encircles the scene along the outer border. |
