Aanvullende informatie

The Sirmium mint was among the facilities pressed into heaviest service during the civil war between Constantius II and the usurper Magnentius, who had seized the western provinces in 350 AD. The FEL TEMP REPARATIO ("happy times restored") coinage was launched empire-wide in 348 to mark Rome's eleven-hundredth anniversary, but the type took on obvious propaganda weight once Magnentius was using his own mints to challenge Constantinian legitimacy. Sirmium itself, in present-day Serbia, served as a principal imperial residence and operational base for Constantius during this conflict.

RIC VIII 44 belongs to the fallen horseman variant of the type, struck after Magnentius's defeat at Mursa Major in 351 — one of the bloodiest engagements of the entire fourth century.
