The FEL TEMP REPARATIO ("happy times are returning") coinage was one of the most ambitious propaganda campaigns in late Roman monetary history, launched under Constantius II following the usurpation of Magnentius in 350. The falling horseman type — the most common of the three FEL TEMP reverses — flooded the empire's mints simultaneously, a coordinated response meant to project stability at a moment when civil war had fractured imperial authority across the western provinces.
Constantinople's mint was expanding rapidly in this period, and RIC VIII 118 is among the issues attributable to its early organizational phase. Bankers' marks appear with some frequency on pieces from this mint and denomination.
